Rowers rescued
as boat capsizes

THE latest bid by north east Fife adventurer Mark Beaumont to be part of another world record-breaking event has been ditched after the boat he was rowing across the Atlantic capsized.
Beaumont (29) and his five crew mates — who were aiming to complete the Atlantic Odyssey challenge in less than 30 days — were 27 days into their trip and just 520 miles from their destination of Barbados, when the 36-foot Sara G overturned.
Fortunately the incident happened in broad daylight just before a shift change so all crew were able to get into their life raft safely.
They were later picked up by a Panamanian cargo ship the Nord Taipei.
Posting on Facebook on Monday following the incident, Mark – who grew up in Newburgh – said the coastguard had been alerted after the Sara G capsized but all crew were safe.
A few hours later he confirmed they were all aboard the Gibraltar-bound Nord Taipei.
