Salvation Army is seeking your help

THE chance to help the Salvation Army is being offered to local people on the eve of the charity’s new shop opening in Leven.

Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL), the charity’s trading wing, is launching its new store at 78 High Street on February 16.

Although it is on track to welcome the first eager bargain hunters, the outlet is still in need of more volunteers to help run it.

And the team is holding a volunteering open day on Wednesday, February 15, so that those interested in helping can come and learn more about what’s involved.

The shop will sell good-quality donated articles including clothes, accessories, bric-a-brac and household goods, with profit gift-aided to the Salvation Army to help fund its valuable work across the UK.

Preparations are well under way in terms of fitting out the shop, but bosses hope more people will want to become involved as “there is always room for more helpers”.

“We rely heavily on the generosity of our volunteers, who are key members of the team in all our shops,” said store manager Frank Richards. “There are lots of different jobs that need doing, from working on the till to sorting through the donated stock, as well as window dressing and helping customers with their purchases.

“Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn new skills or brush up on old ones and a lovely way to give something back to community you live in,” added Mr Richards.

The volunteer session runs from 10am-4pm next Wednesdy, or you can email volunteer@satradingco.org for more information.

The SATCoL shop – the latest in a long line of town centre charity shops in Leven – has replaced the Discount Clothing Store, which closed on the last day of 2011.However, boss Mark Gibb said he hoped to re-open on a new site in Leven around April this year.
