ST ANDREWS began its countdown to the Fife Science Festival in explosive style with an impressive launch to promote the programme of events.

The Museum of University of St Andrews hosted a preview of the festival which featured volcano-making activities, with mint Mentos and Irn-Bru being used to produce a lava-like eruption.

Fun activities like this will be part of the ‘Science in the Galleries’ event at the same venue on Saturday, March 23 (noon until 4pm), when there will be the chance to learn all about the scientific innovations and discoveries associated with St Andrews.

Throughout the festival – from Friday, March 15 until Sunday, March 24 – St Andrews will host a number of events.

As well as ‘Clever Plants, Clever People: Science in the Garden’ events at St Andrews Botanic Garden, there will be a unique opportunity to explore the superb collections on show at the Bell Pettigrew Museum Open Day and the ever-popular Science Discovery Day, a fantastic free day out for families at the University’s School of Physics and Astronomy.

For adults only, there is the chance to explore ‘The Science of Beer’ – and a chance to sample a few made by the local St Andrews Brewery!
