A rededication service will be held at the East Wemyss war memorial tomorrow (Thursday) to mark the return of the bronze statue that was stolen in June this year.
Lord Lieutenant of Fife Mrs Catherine Margaret Dean and Provost Jim Leishman will attend the 11.00 a.m. service.
The three foot tall statue of a World War I infantryman was found at the entrance to Hayfield cemetery in Kirkcaldy days after it was stolen from the top of the memorial in front of St Mary’s Church in East Wemyss.
Some villagers offered their own money for its safe return.
The memorial has the names of 98 servicemen from the town who fell during the two World Wars, and one from a further conflict.
The statue also went missing for several years in the mid-90s and was recovered by the police during a raid on a house in Halifax, Yorkshire.
