Setting sail with Muster plans

Last year's Anstruther Muster.

Last year's Anstruther Muster.

The organisations behind the successful 2012 Anstruther Muster are meeting to agree proposals for the 2013 event.

Talks will be held in the Merchants Room of the Scottish Fisheries Museum at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30.

The meeting will be open to all individuals, local groups and and businesses interested in participating in the planning, organising and running of the 2013 Muster, which is provisionally arranged for August 8-11.

The intention is the 2013 spectacle should repeat and hopefully expand the format that worked so successfully last year, with attractions including a muster of 80 visiting yachts and motor boats from the east of Scotland and further afield.

There was also a classic boat rally, with visiting historic yachts and working boats, and with the museum’s ‘Reaper’ sailing drifter open to the public, with sea shanties on deck.

Other features included a rowing regatta, with racing by teams from Anstruther, Crail and Pittenweem, plus trade stalls, live music and a range of other activities.

The 2013 Muster will again be run as a collaborative effort between its organiser, Anstruther Sailing Club, and those who participated so effectively in 2012 – Anstruther Lifeboat, St Ayles Rowing Club, East Neuk Round Table, Anstruther Improvements Association, Fife Food Network and the Scottish Fisheries Museum, with its Reaper Boat Club and its Model Boat Club.

Further information is available from Bill Kennaway, honorary secretary of Anstruther Sailing Club, on 01333 313172 or secretary@anstruthersailingclub.co.uk
