A Kirkcaldy singer/songwriter’s collaboration with a US musician has raised over £200 for our Maggie’s Centre.
‘Be Prepared’ is a song that Dysart-based musician Sarah Daly, who performs as Metaphorest, wrote back in 2009.
She recorded it then as a simple acoustic number and the song always meant a lot to her but, as she explained “it never quite found its home”.
Then US musician Spaceship found the track online and decided to put his own Beatles-esque spin on it.
Sarah, partner of Fife film-maker Lawrie Brewster, said: “He created an epic, triumphant version of the song that just blew me away.
“Collaborating on this song together was a great experience for us both and so we wanted to do something really special with it.
“I suggested that we donate the proceeds from the song to cancer caring charity Maggie’s which does amazing work in Fife and across the UK, and Spaceship immediately agreed.”
Sarah then got in touch with Tumong Edwards from Maggie’s who she said gave her tremendous support throughout the process.
“We put the song out on Bandcamp and spread the word about it through our social media.
“Scottish music legend Jim Gellatly also included the song in his podcast which was a great boost too.
“We were delighted at the response to the song and ultimately raised £200 from the single version, every penny of which goes to Maggie’s.”
The song is still available to buy here: http://metaphorest.bandcamp.com/track/be-prepared and all proceeds will always go to Maggie’s.
“Spaceship and I were delighted to be able to help such a fantastic organisation in our own small way.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who bought the single and helped to spread the word.
“It’s a great privilege to be able to do what I love and also help a cause that’s close to my heart.
“It has been a wonderful experience putting out this song and I hope to do much more for this great organisation in future,” added Sarah.
Tumong Edwards, community fundraiser for Maggie’s Fife, added: “It’s wonderful that Metaphorest has used her gift of singing and song writing to produce such a beautiful song and fundraise for Maggie’s.
“It’s fantastic people can enjoy her music whilst supporting people with cancer.”
