Is Elie Primary due respect? Yes, that’s right!
The small 32-pupil East Neuk school has retained its prestigious Rights Respecting Schools Level 2 award, three years on from originally winning it, after a rigorous all-day re-inspection by UNICEF.
The school undertook a diverse range of projects, visits, presentations and enterprise ventures, illustrated above – all designed to show its pupils had detailed knowledge of the United Nations Convention on the Rights Of A Child.
Headteacher Maggie Mackay said: “It’s important that we widen our pupils’ horizons by making them aware that not every child in the world enjoys their happy and supported childhoods.
“Being a Rights Respecting School guides education and relationships at Elie – the UNCRC articles are embedded in our policies and, most importantly, in our day to day practice.
“Pupils respect themselves and each other and studying the UNCRC has added significantly to the overall wellbeing of everyone in our school community.”
A marquee is being hired for a party day this Monday to celebrate the award.
