South Road plan given green light
South Road in Cupar.
AN APPLICATION to build 34 homes on a busy Cupar street has been given the go-ahead.
Despite widespread concern about the speed and volume of vehicles in South Road, councillors on the north east Fife area committee gave the green light on Wednesday to the development comprising 22 terraced houses and 12 flats.
A decision on plans for the former Martex cash and carry site was deferred by the committee in June due to concerns about the impact of up to 70 cars accessing the site which sits at the Ceres Road junction.
Councillors visited the site last week, and according to committee chair Councillor Frances Melville, saw for themselves just how busy the road was even mid-morning.
Council transportation official Richard Simmonds had recommended the plan be approved because the site was brownfield.
He said had the site been a greenfield one, it would have been rejected.
