SSAFA benefits from Highland Splendour
SSAFA concert in Rother Halls, Fife.
OVER 140 performers of all ages and from all over Scotland enthralled an audience at the Rothes Halls recently with varied programme of music and dancing which had a strong Scottish theme.
The event was called Jubilee Highland Splendour and was in aid of SSAFA Forces Help Fife.
This was a special fundraising event to enable the Fife branch to continue operations and provide support to Armed Forces Veterans and their families throughout the Kingdom. The director of music was Major Kevin Lamb.
The show, compered by Jimmy Spankie, was a wonderful celebration of Scottish dancing and military music with the unique sight and sound of Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch 3rd Battalion and of the 51st Highland Volunteers 7th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland together with the Highland Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
They were joined by the Pipes and Drums and dancers of the Queen Victoria School Dunblane, who are about to go on tour in Canada.
‘On parade’ with the military band was the very popular Capital Concert Band.
The Lord Lieutenant of Fife, Mrs Margaret Dean, who was at the show said: “It is wonderful that SSAFA has managed to put together such a fantastic event which paid tribute to Her Majesty the Queen in this her Diamond Jubilee year.”
Sir Moray Stewart, president of SSAFA Fife, in thanking the performers and those who organised the event, said: “I can safely say that Jubilee Highland Splendour has been a resounding success and wish to thank all the performers, military and civilian, for giving us so much enjoyment and providing such a memorable experience.
“This has been a very special night and I am delighted that we have been able to place SSAFA in the spotlight and showcase the essential work it does and has been doing for over 125 years.”
The Black Watch Association and the Black Watch Detachment of the Army Cadet Force were also present with their Standards.
The Cadets, under the leadership of Major Ian Taylor, did a sterling job in acting as ushers, collecting donations, selling raffle tickets and generally making themselves very useful.
It is anticipated that the event has raised £3000 for SSAFA Fife.
SSAFA is the longest established and most trusted Forces charity.
It helps serving and ex-Service men and women and their families when they are in need. Support offered is not restricted to those who have served in any particular campaign.
