A look back at the year’s exciting programme of activities was the theme of the annual report by Arlene Keddie, captain of the 1st St Andrews Girls’ Brigade, when she spoke at the presentation of awards and display evening.

She said: ”I now wonder how we managed to pack it all in. So, how can I measure the success of this year? Perhaps the lack of photographs can give me a clue.

“We were all too busy enjoying ourselves, working hard on badge work, creating a team in our squad games and throwing ourselves into the stories we shared, to remember to pick up the camera.”

The session began in August with the enrolment and games night, followed by the first company attendance at church for the enrolment service. Between October and December the company packed in a Hallowe’en story night, the Children in Need fundraising evening, the Guild Christmas party and the Christmas panto at the Byre.

The next challenge was performing their own twist on a Play in a Day for parents, by adapting, casting, rehearsing and creating a short play. Other activities included a Zumba evening, a second church attendance at the popular Palm Sunday service, a sponsored book read, raising funds with a Story Bag project, and creating a book tree.

More recently there was Explorer and Junior fun days, a trip to the university planetarium, and the Holy Trinity Parish Church Jubilee street party, while the most recent junior section camp was held at Balmullo.

Closing her report, Arlene thanked Ron Cruickshanks, Kirsty, Laura, Ellen and Kerry, and parents, grandparents, families, guardians and friends of the girls.

To end the session, the members placed an item into the Holy Trinity Parish Church Diamond Jubilee time capsule, which is to be opened in 25 years.

Awards for 2011-12 saw the presentation of two Gold Explorer badges, nine Junior badges and two Brigader badges, with service badges running from one year to six years’ service.

Company trophy winners were: - Explorer Cup - Liberty Robb; Junior Shield - Rebecca McQueen; Brigader Trophy - Julie Thompson; Best Company Member Trophy - Emily Keddie and Zoe Mitchell; Perfect Attendance Trophy - Hannah Ferrier.
