St Andrews offers bags of support
The donations are handed over.
THE children’s charity, Mary’s Meals, has received a welcome boost thanks to the efforts of youngsters and members of the congregation of St Andrew’s Scottish Episcopal Church in St Andrews.
They have been filling backpacks to be donatedto the charitable organisation, which feeds children who attend schools in deprived areas in 16 developing countries of the world.
Each of the backpacks contained clothes, a towel, stationery, soap, toothpaste and a toothbrush, plus other items to be given to the schoolchildren and, for some of them, it will be the first thing they have ever owned.
In all, the local youngsters filled 20 backpacks and, in addition, helped members of the Mothers’ Union to hold a coffee morning, which raised a further £300 for Mary’s Meals.
The bulging backpacks and the cheque were handed over to Mrs Helen Fleming, of the Scottish charity, which was born out of the Bosnian War when two fish farmers from Dalmally took jeep convoys of aid out to Bosnia.sic edu
