St Andrews taxi operator claims complaints are 'no fare'
St Andrews-based TOWN and Country Taxis, which until recently transported Strathkinness children to Lawhead Nursery under contract from Fife Council, has hit back at criticism of its operation.
Jim Herkes, who runs the taxi company which has carried out council contracts successfully for over 10 years, told the Citizen this week that he had voluntarily given up the transport contract after 24 days because it was impossible to resolve difficulties with parents.
He added: "I wrote to the council to say I had never done this before, but that I preferred the contract to be given to someone else.
"I thought that someone starting afresh on the contract would help the situation."
Last week, the Citizen reported claims from parents that there had been problems with the service.
However, Mr Herkes said that this year, for the first time, a new clause had been added into the contract at the tendering stage.
