Stage one to £30,000 boost for community

THE first stage of a project asking people in Kirkcaldy and surrounding areas how to spend £30,000 in their own communities has proved popular.

A series of road shows held as part of Kirkcaldy KANES (Kirkcaldy Area Neighborhood Engagement Scheme) have now finished.

Kirkcaldy KANES is a participatory budgeting project which lets residents decide how part of a local public budget is spent. In this case, £30,000 has been allocated from the Kirkcaldy Area Committee and the Community Safety Fund for initiatives in the area.

Julie Dickson, area team leader for Community Learning and Development, said: “The roadshows were really well received and gave us a chance to speak to people as well as giving an opportunity for locals and community groups to pick up an application pack.

Deadline

“The deadline for applications is January 18 at 5.00 p.m. and those who meet very simple criteria will be invited to an event which is also open to the public on February 25, 2012 at Adam Smith College.

‘‘The decisions on who gets a slice of the cash will be made by members of the public on the day.”

Councillor Alice Soper, chairman of Kirkcaldy Area Committee said: “Kirkcaldy KANES is a really exciting project. I hope anyone who missed the chance to attend one of the road shows gets in touch to apply for a chance to receive some of the £30,000 on offer.”
