A snapshot of sporting life in Levenmouth from over half a century ago has been preserved, thanks to the passing interest of a former player.
James Devlin, an ex-Methil man, recovered this picture of Methil Star Colts from 1959-60 on a recent visit to his home town.
It turned out that the photograph might have been thrown away, had it not been for the good sense of staff at the squad’s former venue.
James, who left Methil in 1962, explained: “I was visiting Methil and paid a visit to Byron Street pavilion, where the photo used to hang.
“But, meeting with the lady in the cafe, she told me the club had finished and all the memorabilia was to be thrown away.
“To her credit, she boxed it up and stored it in a cupboard. She was kind enough to retrieve the box and let me have the photo – she believed they were going to be destroyed.
“I wonder if other players may remember it?”
James added: “Unfortunately, I could not take any of the cups and trophies, as I had not earned them!”
James reckoned the team line-up in the photo was D. Simon (captain), D. Gray, D. Cook, J. Cook, H. Selfridge, D. Duncan, W. Angus (secretary), ? Marshall (trainer), J. Ross, J. Page, J. Devlin, A. Drummond and W. Merchant.
