Strathkinness children help stop speeding

LOCAL police officer Susie Martin has launched a poster design competition at Strathkinness Primary School to reward the pupils for their support of the police initiative to stop motorists speeding through the village.

"There has been lots of enthusiasm at the school for our campaign," PC Martin told the Citizen.

"I am going to give them some ideas for their poster designs, but I am looking for some local people to judge the competition. I don't think it would be appropriate for me to choose the winning designs."

PC Martin would also very much appreciate the support of local businesses and residents in providing small — but appropriate — prizes for the competition.

"I have some pencils and rulers to hand out to each child who enters the competition, but it would be good to have some other prizes to give to the winners," he said.

There are three primary classes at Strathkinness — P1 and 2, P3 and 4, and P5, 6 and 7 — and PC Martin wants to award a prize to the winner from each class and also to an overall winner.

The speeding initiative was introduced in February, as a result of concerns raised by local residents at community engagement meetings in the area and, to date, 59 motorists have been caught by 'Speedar' speed detection equipment as they travelled through the village

One motorist was caught doing 46mph in the 20mph zone around the primary school.
