A former pupil of St Leonards School in St Andrews is hoping to further her musical career by winning a place at a prestigious music school in Spain.

Mary McDougall (18) is currently in her first year at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester and is studying for a BA (Hons) in Popular Music Performance.

The course is run in association with Access to Music and their courses have been attended by the likes of Rita Ora and Ed Sheeran.

Now she is keen to further herself by attending a summer programme in Valencia, which is run by the world’s prominent contemporary music school, Berklee.

The school is currently running a Facebook competition offering a place on its summer programme, and Mary is one of the musicians in the running. The musician with the most votes will win the place, and people can vote for Mary by visiting www.facebook.com/BerkleeValencia/app_154581087931912. The closing date for votes is May 1.

Since starting at the RNCM, Mary has won a Roland Scholarship for musical equipment to help her with her career.

She hopes to forge a career as a singer/songwriter and is in the process of developing her Mary Mac website - www.marymcdougall.com.
