Support your local pub, MSP urges

AN area MSP is urging constituents to support their local pub.
New research from brewer Molson Coors has revealed how valued Scottish pubs are to the communities that they serve.
After the local shop, pubs were the most frequently visited amenity, with a third of Scots visiting the local at least twice a month.
The independent report shone a light on the pivotal role that pubs play in their local community and the lengths to which some publicans are going to keep their business afloat.
With over 50,000 Scots’ jobs and £1.5bn of our national GDP dependent on the twin industries of beer and pubs, pub closures put jobs at risk, many of which are people’s first jobs, and an important industry during a challenging time.
North east Fife MSP Rod Campbell said: “The report shows just how important pubs are to the communities they serve.
“It is always disappointing to hear of a local community losing one of its pubs.
“In north east Fife, there are now 64 pubs where there were 70 five years ago, marking a nine per cent reduction.
“It is important we do what we can to ensure these important cornerstones of communities can remain open in the future.”
