Tayport firm opens its doors
A TAYPORT-BASED technical textiles business, which became an employee-owned company at the start of this year, held an open day for friends and family to visit its new innovation space and museum.
It’s all part of a bright, new future for Scott & Fyfe, with around 150 visitors taking the chance to see some of the major developments and enjoy some family fun at the forward-thinking firm.
The custom-designed innovation space and museum, both within an old factory area, were opened in October last year by John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth.
The innovation space incorporates individual team pods (business units), a product development tree, product display areas, a cinema/presentation space and flexible meeting areas.
The museum provides a record of the company’s 148 years of history.
The open day consisted of many ‘fun-filled’ activities for children and adults alike with an opportunity to tour the factory, allowing everyone to see what their loved ones’ job roles entailed and to ask questions of the tour guides.
The day was also an opportunity to explain to friends and family the recent move to employee ownership and the impact it will have on Scott & Fyfe.
Employee ownership puts the control of the company’s success into the employees’ hands.
In order to prosper, the team have to work together and therefore the support of family, friends and the community is important.
Employee ownership isviewed by the company as a positive and inspiring move which allows the entire firm to work as a team, with one goal and one vision.
All company staff are now based in one site at Tayport Works, together with all production, warehousing and administration staff.
