A Glenrothes man caught with a stash of sick images of children has been jailed for 10 months.

Graham Stevenson (54), of Tanna Drive, appeared for sentence at Cupar Sheriff Court on Thursday, having earlier admitted having the images in his possession between October 19, 2003, and January 17, 2013.

He had also admitted having ‘extreme’ pornographic images depicting a woman being raped.

A total of 36 of the videos were at the most serious level on the Copine scale, showing sadism towards young children, the court heard.

Sheriff Charles Macnair told Stevenson that even though he was a first offender, there was no option other than prison.

He imposed an extended sentence whereby Stevenson will have to be supervised for two years after leaving jail; made a Sexual Offences Protection Order for 10 years and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

“These are not victimless crimes,” said the Sheriff.

“The victims are the children who are degraded and abused.

“The extreme pornography charge involves the realistic depiction of the rape of a female.

“Having regard to all the circumstances, I have concluded that there is no appropriate alternative to a custodial sentence.”

Stevenson’s defence agent, Jacqueline Meisel, had told the court that her client appreciated the seriousness of the offences.

“He fully understands that he has helped create a market for indecent images of children,” she said.
