AN APPEAL run by the Fife Herald inviting the community to help ensure Cupar’s traditional Christmas Day lunch went ahead, resulted in many people who may otherwise have spent the day alone, enjoying some festive spirit with others.

Canon Pat McInally said the appeal for people from across the area to join in the event at the Age Concern hall was a great success.

He said: “We had 25 people seated, including a young mother with three children, and a recently married couple from Latvia who would have spent Christmas on their own. “We also had a very able team of volunteers including three drivers, four people preparing food in the kitchen, and six others serving the tables. People came from as far afield as Kingskettle and Ceres and enjoyed a three Christmas course lunch, freshly cooked on the premises, accompanied by wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee. There was a secret Santa for everyone and some after dinner entertainment which which thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

“Those who volunteered said that they would be happy to help again in the future, which secures this important annual event for the time being. I would like to express my personal thanks to all who made this possible.”
