THEY took part in the Great Parade and appeared at the Scottish Parliament last summer...but now the famous Glenrothes hippos have even more exciting news - they are all going to have babies!

Bill Wooton, Kingdom Veterinary Clinic, was delighted to confirm that by some bizarre coincidence every single one of the hippos decorated by primary schools last year is pregnant.

“All the pregnancies are going really well and we’re expecting the baby hippos to all arrive on 1 April,” he said.

“I’m just glad there are no twins”.

After a short incubation period with their parents the baby hippos will be delivered to 15 local nurseries to be decorated.

The bigger parent hippos will once again be painted by local primary schools, with all 32 reunited in time for the second Great Glenrothes Hippo Parade in the Kingdom Centre on 16 June with all hippos unveiled at a special celebratory event in the mall.
