Theatre group’s boost for West Fife youths

A West Fife youth theatre group has been given funding.

Thanks to a successful joint application by KINETIC and Fife Council, European funding from LEADER has been made available to appoint a part time Outreach worker to ‘Collaborate’ - a West Fife Villages Youth Theatre Project (WYT).

The post, which lasts until December 2013, will allow the project to extend into Kincardine as well as introducing adult volunteering opportunities through a ‘parents’ committee.

Joe Fitzpatrick, head of local and community services said: “It’s fantastic news that the funding for this position has been secured. Vikki Wilson is now in post working with the local young people to deliver an extended programme that will include two festivals every year to showcase work and be closely aligned with young members working towards Youth Achievement Awards and opportunities to attend the National Festival Youth Theatre, Scotland. Two young group members will also be appointed as ‘Creative Apprentices’ who will work towards Youth Leadership qualifications.”

Ann-Marie Martin, managing director of Kinetic said: “Kinetic’s partnership with Community Learning and Development in the West Fife has a rich history in delivering creative learning opportunities that promote a strong sense of self through providing an integrated and inclusive environment accessible to every child and young person. We are excited about the future of West Fife Youth Theatre, and developing a provision that is driven by the young people involved.”

*Young people who are interested in taking part in West Fife Villages Youth Theatre Project can contact Corinne McGinley, Community Education Worker, on 01383 602344 or pop into Oakley, Kincardine or High Valleyfield Community centre and ask for more information.
