The first new council homes built in Kirkcaldy for 20 years are improving the lives of the new residents.

The 32 home development in Ostlers Way is now complete and tenants have revealed how it has enhanced their lives.

Andrew and Diane Lowndes recently moved into one of the new four bedroom properties with their four children after living in a two bedroom flat for the past seven years.

Diane said: “I still can’t believe this is real. The house is perfect and we have so much room now..

“Having our own back door leading out on to the garden makes a big difference, as all the kids are now able to get out and play in the garden.”

The one, two and three storey houses have a mix of two, three and four bedrooms, and include both amenity and wheelchair use properties - providing a wide range of home types for various needs.

Jim and Lindsey Hume live in one of the new two bedroom properties with their wheelchair-bound AGE daughter Tracey after living in a two-storey house for the past 12 years.

Better

Lindsey said: “This is 100 times better as it’s all on one level. I love the big kitchen and bathroom.

“Since moving up here, Tracey has got her life back and is slowly improving. She is able to get anywhere in the house and more importantly she can get outside into the garden”

The £3.5m project was managed by Kingdom Housing Association on behalf of Fife Council and built by local contractors Campion Homes. Some £2.5m came from Fife Council while the remaining £1m was provided by the Scottish Government.

Councillor Carol Lindsay told the Press that each house has solar thermal panels which will help residents reduce with fuel bills during tough economic times.

Councillor Neil Crooks, chairman of Kirkcaldy Area Committee added: “These new homes are a great addition to the housing stock in Kirkcaldy and will create a chain of lets so even more people will benefit from a home that meets their needs.
