Tributes mount for hit -and-run victim ‘Jeff’

Floral tributes are mounting on the roadside in Leslie close to where Stephen McCann was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Scarves and football shirts are amongst the flowers, cards, photographs and dozens of sympathy messages being left by friends of the Leslie 20-year-old, and former Glenwood High School pupil.

The incident happened at approximately 3.15am on Saturday, January 21 on High Street, Leslie, close to the Greenside Hotel and has left a sense of shock amongst friends and family.

Hundreds of tributes and messages of sympathy have continued to be posted on Stephen’s Facebook page as news reached friends and associates.

Known affectionately to his friends as ‘Jeffery’ and ‘DJ Jefferz’, messages included: “R.I.P Jeff, gone but not forgotten xx” and “Your with the angels now, you will always be remembered and I’ll always remember you as the boy with the nice teeth and a cheeky smile x”.

Stephen’s Dad responding to the many messagers said: “Would just like to thank all Stephen’s friends, sorry Jeff’s friends for posting your thoughts for our son, it means a great deal to all of us - thank you all x Dad.”

Locals are saddened by the incident. Mr Hussain a local newsagent said: “We knew the boy very well, nobody could say anything bad about him, I’m very sad about this loss. Honestly, he was a boy you could trust, Leslie is definitely a sad place just now.”
