A GLENROTHES business is celebrating after winning an impressive three awards at the World Scotch Pie Championships.

Alex Mitchell Butchers scooped two bronze awards and one gold award at the event held earlier this month in Dunfermline.

With a record entry of more than 100 butchers and bakers entering some 500 products, the town company beat off stiff competition to take the gold prize for the best sausage roll, and bronze awards for their individual steak pies and Scotch pies.

Katherine Greer from Alex Mitchell, said “We are delighted with our win and can go away with our heads held very high indeed.

“To have been judged as one of the best in the land against so many of our peers is a huge achievement.”

The competition, which has run for 14 years, aims to highlight the high quality artisan pastry products that our high street butchers and bakers are creating right now.

Recognising the “great and the good” in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry, said Robert Ross, head judge, who has, for many years overseen the process to ensure only the best pies are recognised and that only the best of the best is crowned world champion.

Alan Stuart, founder of the now famous competiton added: “I am a proud man! Once again we have brought together the best pies and baked goods and today we can really celebrate the achievement of our hard working butchers and bakers.

“My heartfelt congratulations go to our winner, and indeed everyone taking away a prize - they are all winners in my book.”

The annual competition is supported by both Scottish Bakers and the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, and respective chief executives Alan Clarke and Douglas Scott were very impressed with the overall standard of the products on show at this years event.
