Cathie Sneddon and Linda Watson are taking part in this years Twilight Walk for Maggies.

Registration for this year’s Twilight Walk around Glenrothes in aid of Maggie’s Fife is now open.

And so too is the opportunity for people with cancer and their loved ones to enrol in an introductory course to increase confidence in walking and to build up their stamina for the walk.

A weekly walking for health and well-being group starts at Maggie’s Fife tomorrow (Thursday) for six weeks in preparation for anyone wanting to take part in the Twilight Walk on May 31.

The walking group is a great opportunity to start the training for the walk or to get out and get active as well as to meet other walkers who will also be participating.

Elspeth Salter, head of the Maggie’s Centre in the grounds of the Victoria Hospital, said: “The walking group aims to help people build up their strength by walking with experienced walkers and have fun at the same time.

“Last year four walkers from the walking group took part in the Twilight Walk completing the full 10 miles.

“It was a great achievement!”

The Twilight Walk has become an annual event in the town in recent years, with walkers able to choose to complete a route of one, five or 10 miles through Glenrothes.

Last year around 300 walkers raised over £13,500 helping to provide regular income to help sustain the cancer care centre.

Doreen Gray, walk organiser, said: “I’m so proud of all that the walk has achieved, and so privileged to be part of the volunteer group that has organised it year after year.

“I know there are many people who have been on their own cancer journey or who lost a loved one like I have, who feel that the community spirit of the walk gives them a place to remember loved ones and to celebrate life.”

Walkers can choose to walk one, five or 10 miles.

Registration costs only £7.50 for adults, £5 for a child (under 16) and dogs walk free.

The walk begins at 7.30 p.m. on May 31 at the Lomond Centre, Glenrothes and every walker gets a goody bag to keep them going.
