Vital donation at Savoy

FAMILY and friends of a popular and much-respected Largo man, who died suddenly two years ago, have donated a defibrillator to the Savoy Centre in Methil.
Colin Welsh (52), of Lower Largo, sadly suffered a heart attack playing five-a-side at the centre.
Colin had been a keen walker and, in particular, loved walking stretches of the Fife Coastal Path, so it was a fitting tribute that around 30 friends and family members walked along the path from Crail to Largo recently to raise funds to buy the defibrillator in his memory.
Customers at the Railway Tavern, Lower Largo, also contributed, donating the proceeds of a quiz night.
The equipment will be available for all users of the Savoy Centre, should a similar emergency ever occur in future.
Colin’s wife Jane, said: “I’d like to thank everybody who took part in the walk and everyone who contributed to help provide this life-saving piece of equipment.”
Mark Pennycook, the Scottish Ambulance Service’s community defibrillator officer, has been very supportive of the project and has offered to run briefing sessions at Savoy for centre users to raise awareness of how the equipment works.
Mark said: “Having a defibrillator in the centre significantly increases the chances of someone surviving a heart attack, should the crisis every happen.
“The equipment that has been donated is very easy to use and is a great asset to have available, should the need ever arise.”
