We’ll point you in the wrong direction
Visit Scotland map
VISITScotland proudly proclaims: “We’ll point you in the right direction” in a new promotional map of Scotland.
However, residents in a couple of East Neuk burghs have been asking ‘Did the earth move for you?’ and making other wryly humorous observations, owing to an unfortunate error in the publication.
The map, hand-delivered to households and given away free recently with Sunday newspapers, has physically shifted Pittenweem and St Monans.
Pittenweem is depicted as being next to Elie, and St Monans beside Anstruther, when, as all locals ken, it’s the other way around.
The reaction has been largely light-hearted, but it was felt maps of Scotland with VisitScotland’s name attached should be correct.
Regional director Richard Pinn explained: “We work with a well-reputed publisher on the map, which is included in our direct mail as part of our new Explore campaign. The team has made every effort to check the information and locations shown but, unfortunately, there has been some slippage with the locations on the Fife coastline in the final print run.
“We expect this to have minimal impact on visitors to the region and the direct mail is just one aspect of the campaign, which is reaching over a million households.
“Fife has had a high-profile campaign running on radio and in the media including national and local press titles, encouraging even more people to visit the Kingdom this year.”
