Work finally starts on site of Kirkcaldy Morrisons

AFTER years in the planning, workers have now moved on site at Invertiel to build a new Morrisons supermarket for Kirkcaldy.

The former B&Q premises at the west end of the Esplanade, which has lain empty since 2009, will make way for a new foodstore, 415-space car park and a petrol station.

The development will also create 330 new local jobs.

Workers moved on to the site last week after the final stage of the planning process was completed by Fife Council and Invertiel Developments.

Richard Bakes, development executive for Morrisons, said “We are delighted that work has started on bringing Morrisons ‘Fresh Format’ to Invertiel.

“We look forward to seeing the new store develop as we work towards delivering a brand new Morrisons foodstore to local residents by autumn 2013.”

It is hoped the development of the store will help kick-start the regeneration of the Invertiel and Seafield areas.
