Cllr Elizabeth Riches cuts the ribbon to officially open the park.
ANSTRUTHER youngsters had a ball at the opening of their new community sports court.
Dozens of locals turned out to watch the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new-look Bankie Park and to take part in organised games of basketball, football, dodgeball and hockey.
Councillor for East Neuk and Landward, Elizabeth Riches, officially opened the new facility, which marks the first phase of redevelopment at the park after years of community fundraising by members of the Bankie Park Development Group.
It benefited from the generosity of local businesses and advice and assistance from Fife Council parks development officer Alan Bisset.
At the opening, Cllr Riches paid tribute to those who had worked tirelessly to help improve the park.
She said: “I am delighted to open this new facility which has been enthusiastically welcomed here in Anstruther.”
“It comes after tremendous community effort and many months of planning, hard work, time and commitment along with generous contributions towards fundraising from local people and businesses.
“We look forward with eager anticipation to seeing the next stage of this project, a toddler play area, which is due to begin early next year.”
As well as the Bankie Park Development Group, the facility, designed by Fife Council’s leisure and cultural services, has also taken shape with support from Fife Environment Trust, Lottery funded Awards for All Scotland, The Common Good Fund and Britvic’s ‘Transform your Patch’, a nationwide movement to help transform the UK’s outdoor spaces.
A fundrasing fayre, organised by the Bankie Park Development Group, was then held in The East Neuk Centre.
