Shops in St Andrews are gearing up for a special campaign designed to help the local retail economy which, like other towns and cities across the country, has suffered a downturn in recent times.
Behind the fun Easter initiative promoting local shopping are members of the St Andrews Merchants’ Association.
The association, which promotes the interests of shops and businesses in St Andrews, is beginning a “Love St Andrews Shops” promotion of its independent shops and businesses.
Lindsey Adam, president of the association and owner of the popular gift shop, Bonkers, told the Citizen:”This will initially be targeted at local customers with the aim of informing them about all that is on offer in St Andrews and encouraging them to shop in town.”
The first event is this weekend with an Easter egg hunt for children today and tomorrow in 10 shops and businesses in the town.
Children will have a list of places where chocolate eggs have been hidden and if they find one they can keep it - with the added bonus of a special prize to the youngster who discovers a golden egg.
The 10 participating businesses will display posters in their windows to show that they are taking part, while a leaflet is available with a list of participating shops from the competition sponsor, Luvians Ice Cream Parlour, as well as other businesses.
Lindsey added:”The association hopes that children and their families will visit lots of the participating shops over the Easter weekend and find out what they all have to offer. There are many different types of businesses taking part - from shoe shops to florists and gift shops.”
