The John MacDougall Mesothelioma Trust, set up in memory of the ex-Glenrothes and Central Fife MP, has sponsored a day at Maggie’s Fife.
It costs £2400 a day to run the cancer care centre in Kirkcaldy and Maggie’s invites local people, companies and organisations to donate that amount as sponsors.
John died of the asbestos-related cancer five years ago.
When John’s widow Cathy and daughter Julie heard of the scheme, they thought it would be a fitting way to mark the anniversary of his passing.
Julie said: “My dad died on August 13, 2008, and the Trust was set up in his memory to help fellow sufferers of mesothelioma and their families.
“Thanks to generous donations, there is quite a lot of money available and we thought we could put some of it back into the community by sponsoring a day at Maggie’s.
“In this way we can hopefully help all those with cancer a little and I know my dad would have approved wholeheartedly.”
Tu Edwards, community fundraiser for Maggie’s Fife, said:‘’On behalf of Maggie’s Fife and the 35 visitors we had on August 13, I’d like to say thank you to Julie and Cathie from the Trust for sponsoring that day.
