Police are appealing for witnesses following a two-car collision near Auchtermuchty on Saturday night that left a man critically injured.

Emergency services were called to the B936 Auchtermuchty to Dunshalt road shortly after 8:30pm.

A man and woman travelling separately in a Fiat Stilo, heading southbound, and a Peugeot 206, heading northbound, suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and is in a stable condition while the man was transferred to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee in a critical condition.

The road was closed in both directions in the wake of the incident to allow for collision investigation but reopened at around 3:50am.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw the vehicles travelling shortly before the collision to get in touch.

Sergeant Derek Allan of Police Scotland said: “This was a very serious collision that has left two people badly injured.

“We are continuing to carry out our enquiries in order to establish the full set of circumstances however I would ask anyone who saw these vehicles prior to the collision or who was in the vicinity to please contact police on 101.”
