A 23-year-old man has appeared in court following a number of fires reported to police in Fife over last weekend.

The man is facing seven charges relating to wilful fire raising, as well as three charges of theft.

The incidents happened in Merlin Crescent and Martin Street, both in Buckhaven, between midnight and 1.30am on Sunday, February 21.

As a result of a joint investigation between the Scottish Fire Service and Police Scotland, the man made his first appearance at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court the following day, February 22.

Detective Sergeant Paula Warrender, of Levenmouth Police Station, said: “These incidents had a profound impact on the local community and we carried out a thorough investigation in relation to each offence.

“Whenever we receive such reports, we will devote the necessary resources to identify those responsible.”
