Bosses at a Kirkcaldy shopping centre have apologised for the inconvenience caused by ongoing plumbing problems at toilets in the facility.

The move came after a member of the public complained about the long closure of the ladies, disabled toilets and baby changing facilities in the Mercat.

In an email to the Press they said: “After an extensive refurbishment, I was impressed the first time I visited the toilets.

“However on subsequent visits I was disappointed to find the toilets were closed and we were redirected to use Marks and Spencer’s facility.

“It’s a dire situation after all these many weeks these toilets have been unavailable.”

The toilets underwent a refurbishment last year with extra cubicles and more child friendly features added.

A Mercat Centre spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the on-going plumbing issues at the ladies toilets. Contractors are onsite today (Tuesday) and are working to solve the problem as quickly as possible.”
