AROUND 3000 people turned out to watch history being made, or perhaps more appropriately history being blown up, as the Methil Power Station lum was toppled in a controlled explosion.
Those wanting to catch a final glimpse of the 300ft stack gathered at vantage points along the coast from as early as 12 noon, with Leven prom proving a particularly popular place.
Initial reaction from Scottish Power was that “all went well”, with project manager Dylan Hughes, adding the energy company was sad to see it go.
He continued: “The station and the chimney stack in particular has been a major part of the local landscape.
“Many people in the local area will be sad to see it go as well, but I’m equally sure that many will also be glad to see it removed.
“We hope that the area can be put to good use in the future.”
