METHILHILL Community and Children’s Gala proved to be a shining success despite a respite in the hot weather and sunshine.

Around 1000-1500 people turned out to support the 2011 feast of summer civic celebrations.

Committee chair Janet Higgins welcomed all to the new venue at Herd Park in Methilhill, while ex-primary school head Charles Small performed the official opening, following the traditionally colourful procession.

It was a particularly special day for the Gala Day Princess, Sophie Williams, and the Prince, Jamie McAuley, both of P6.

Jamie’s attendants were Liam Bissett, Callum Johnstone, Ethan Coventry, Callum Hay, Daniel Raeburn and Kal Fitzpatrick, while accompanying Sophie were Jodie Robertson, Carly Hamilton, Dionne Simkin, Caitlin Semple, Hannah Barclay and Francesca Donaghy.

The Gala has been running for over a quarter of a century and Janet Higgins praised all who’d made the event happen, including the committee, which would be starting soon on raising funds for 2012’s event – having gathered the necessary £5000 for this year.

Sainsbury’s in Leven stepped in late on to help with the provisions of food and drink, while Janet also expressed thanks to all who had turned up on a rather cold day.

The regular assortment of stalls, fun rides and fancy dress, including a new attraction, go-karting, all proved a big hit.
