A Kirkcaldy couple who met at a dance hall in Edinburgh have marked their 50th wedding anniversary.
James and June Edwards toasted the milestone with close family and relatives at a meal at Balbirnie House Hotel, Markinch.
James (74), originally from West Bengal, India, and June (71), from Oxgangs, Edinburgh, met in 1959 when he was stationed at Edinburgh Castle with the Royal Army Pay Corps. He was going to the Palais dance hall in Fountainbridge with army friends when he met his wife-to-be.
James went to London after completing his Ntional Service, but they stayed in touch, and married at St John’s Church in Islington on September 28, 1963.
The couple moved to Kirkcaldy in the late 1960s after James secured a job as a production engineer with the GEC factory. June worked as a nurse at Victoria Hospital. Later, they moved to Middlesex before finally retiring to Kirkcaldy. The couple have three children and five grandchildren.
