KENNOWAY student Louise Keddie has proved she knows better than most about how to polish up someone’s appearance by winning a national student beauticians’ competition.

Louise, an NVQ Level 3 Beauty student at the Elmwood campus of the Scottish Rural University College, won first place in nail art, and then took second in the fantasy make-up category at the Aberdeen College Hair and Beauty Festival 2012 competition.

There were over 400 entrants from Fife, Dundee, Inverness, Angus and Aberdeen in categories including cover girl make-up, manicures, ladies’ commercial cut and blow dry, as well as treatments based around themes of fantasy and high fashion.

Louise said of the competition: “I had an excellent day.

“The atmosphere was amazing and it was good to see work from other students, as well as showing my own.

“It was a great feeling to win, as all the hard work was definitely worthwhile. It is something I will be proud to add to my CV in the hope of securing a job.”

Beauty therapy lecturer at Elmwood Karin Anderson added: “The event offered our students the chance to compete against other colleges and see how their skills measured up to the competition. Our students did a great job and we look forward to competing again next year.”
