A progress report on moves to tackle dilapidated eyesores across Glenrothes is to be presented to the Area Committee today, (Wednesday).
Councillors gave the green light in January for officers to use a range of powers at their disposal to improve the situation of four prioritised buildings; the former Budgies store, 147 High Street, Leslie, derelict house, 254 High Street Leslie, former five-a-side building, Overstenton Park and former Co-op building, Albany Gate.
In his report Robin Presswood, head of enterprise, planning and protective services confirms that in respect of 254 High Street a site visit was carried out by officers from building standards and public safety in March, which resulted in the building not being deemed dangerous.
A letter was issued on April 11, in line with Building Scotland Act (2003), to the owners to reinstate security fencing to the property which will be put on the defective buildings list for monitoring.
Officers have also formally written to the owners of 147 High Street to establish their future intentions for the property.
Regarding Overstenton Park Mr Presswood said: “Contact was made in April, via the owner’s agents, to request that the ground floor access doors and windows are secured.
“The grounds do not give officers any concerns, however, if the agents or owner, do not have this building secure, works will be instructed to carry out this piece of work.”
Mr Presswood added: “It is not possible or desirable for the Council to take a position where situations of neglect would be resolved using public money.
“This would only be as a last resort where all other avenues have been explored and exhausted.”
Glenwood not a ‘priority’ though work continues
The Glenwood precinct is becoming run-down, but officers say it is not a key focus for dilapidated property work because it is not in a prominent location.
However, a number of applications have been approved within the Glenwood Centre including:
Erection of retail units and public house/restaurant on former New Bridge tavern site.
Erection of retail units with vehicle access and car parking on the former Gulf Oil Garage Site.
