A NEW venture to form a community choir for Markinch and the surrounding area has been launched.

Markinch Community and District Choir meets in the town’s parish church hall and aims to bring the whole community together through song.

Ann McCafferty is one of those behind the project, which is being supported by Markinch Community Council, as a way of fostering some community spirit.

She explained: “I am president of Markinch Amateur Operatic Society and I became aware there are a lot of people who would love to sing but don’t want to go on stage.

“They don’t want to be part of the performing arts.

“So a community choir seemed like a good idea.

“In the first instance we have set up a 10 week session to gauge the level of interest and see if there is a desire for a communtiy choir in Markinch.”

Ann has enlisted the help and support of Carol Ann Hedley as choirmaster for the project.

Carol Ann will bring her valuable experience working with Voice Box, the youth music initiative choir, to the position.

The meetings take place in Markinch Parish Church Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm.

Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to come along and they do not have to live in Markinch.
