As hundreds of people sipped some of the best wines available in the world in St Andrews on Saturday, little did many of them realise that the hosts of the event have been gaining national recognition.
Luvians Bottleshops in Cupar and St Andrews, owned and run by the Fusaro brothers Luigi, Vince and Tony, staged its annual wine fair in the town hall.
As well as wines, from across the globe, provided by Luvians’ suppliers including Cairn O’Mhor, visitors could also sample various gins from Eden Mill, whiskies from the small Speyside Distillery Benromach and Scotland’s first rum, the ‘Dark Matter’.
St Andrews Bottle Shop manager Archie McDermott said: “Luvians is on a tremendous roll at the moment; we are the current holders of the Rhone Wines Independent Retailer of the Year and we have just been awarded the 31 Days of German Riesling Retailer of the Year award for 2015.”
Archie said he was pleased to see over 300 people attend Saturday’s event.
“The place was really buzzing, he said, “there was a great atmosphere and people were really interested in the wines and spirits we have there.
“We had some really good feedback from both visitors and our suppliers and everyone seemed to have a good time and enjoyed our ten per cent off offer.”
“We are looking forward to defending our Rhone Wines title at an event in London next month which will be held in the restaurant which one the same title for restaurants.”
The next few months will also be busy as Luvians gets ready for the festive season.
“We have a mailing list, explained Archie, “ which means people can find out about the offers we have on drinks which they particularly like.
“Each month we have two tasting nights; one for wine and the other for non-wine. This month the St Andrews bottle shop will host Edinburgh Gin and a Spanish v Portuguese win event. Next month we will have a whisky tasting and an Australian wine night so there’s lots to look forward to.”
