The name of the new Levenmouth secondary school has been approved by councillors.

The school, which opens to pupils next August, will be known as Levenmouth Academy.

The announcement follows a ballot vote by over 3000 primary and secondary pupils across Levenmouth.

They were asked to choose their favourite from a shortlist - compiled from over 100 suggestions from the public - which also included Levenmouth High School, Bayview High School, East Fife High School and Methilhaven High School.

The new secondary school was approved by councillors in April 2014, and will be able to accommodate up to 1800 pupils.

A Fife College campus will also be situated on the site, currently being built on the playing fields of Buckhaven High School by BAM Construction.
