NORTH East Fife MSP, Roderick Campbell, has welcomed the outcome of last week’s local authority election results in his constituency that saw five SNP councillors elected, one in each ward.

Following a hard campaign, David MacDiarmid was re-elected in Howe of Fife and Tay Coast, Karen Marjoram was elected in Cupar, Bill Connor in Tay Bridgehead, Keith McCartney in St Andrews and John Docherty in East Neuk and Landward.

Mr Campbell said: “The SNP has strengthened its position in North East Fife, and increased the number of councillors by 500 per cent.

“In St Andrews, the SNP has made history with our first ever councillor being elected in that ward.

“Moreover, there is now an SNP councillor in every ward in North East Fife for the first time.

“These historic results show the SNP going from strength to strength in North East Fife, and I hope this momentum can continue in the future.”

He went on: “Nationally, the SNP has made gains in every corner of the country, to make it the largest party in Scotland, and the national party of Scotland.

“Every SNP candidate in North East Fife had to fight hard campaigns against some well established Lib Dem candidates.

“These historic results show the SNP going from strength to strength in North East Fife, and I hope this momentum can continue in the future.”
