CUPAR’S traffic problems are a step closer to being solved after Fife Council announced plans to redevelop the former ATS depot on St Catherine Street.
The local authority bought the building in January and is now in talks over purchasing the adjacent Paterson Bell solicitors’ office.
A development brief for the 900 sq metre site proposes the buildings are demolished to allow the road to be widened at the war memorial junction, helping ease the town’s congestion problem.
A public consultation on what to do with the rest of the site received only eight responses.
The council hopes to fill the remaining space with a mix of commercial and residential units.
The plans form part of a wider traffic management revamp which will also see new arrangements at the Cross and the junction between East Burnside and East Bridge.
Castlehill Place will be closed off at the East Bridge end.
