On your marks for Games challenge

two thousand and twelve active Langtonians are being sought to take part in the Kirkcaldy Summer Games Challenge.

As part of the Beveridge Park Festival, Fife Council’s Active Fife group and Community Use Schools have teamed up with Fife Sports & Leisure Trust for a sporting event with a difference.

With 2012 being such an important year for sport, the teams are looking for 2012 people to sign up to run, skip, jump, cycle, skate, bounce or walk one mile around Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy during the weekend of the festival on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29.

All 2012 people taking part will have their name added to the Kirkcaldy Summer Games Challenge 2012 banner which will be displayed in sports facilities across Kirkcaldy as well as the new Kirkcaldy leisure centre when it opens next year.

The theme is Active travel, so the mile can be covered in any way participants can think of to get around the park.

Active Fife, Community Use Schools and Fife Sports & Leisure Trust staff will be there to help, with rowing machines, cycling machines and an abundance of equipment to inspire.

As 2012 is clearly the year to get involved in sport and physical activity the teams are keen to promote all of the varied facilities and activities on offer in Kirkcaldy.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust manages 12 leisure centres across the Kingdom on behalf of Fife Council where people can swim, take part in exercise classes, or arrange their own sports or activity clubs, and Kirkcaldy will see the opening of the new leisure centre in the Summer of 2013.

The current pool will remain open until this time. For more information see www.fifeleisure.org.uk.

Kirkcaldy also has two Community Use Schools – Balwearie and Kirkcaldy High – offering a wide range of activities and facilities for clubs and individuals to use.

More information about Community Use School and the facilities available can be found at www.fifedirect.org.uk.

Anyone who would like to sign up to the Kirkcaldy Summer Games Challenge, can register online at www.fifedirect.org.uk/activefife or contact the Active Fife team on 01383 602393. Entries will be taken on a first come first served basis.
