I didn’t know a lot about Karren Brady apart from her work on The Apprentice. Then I happened to see an interview with her on television and wanted to find out more. I have to say she is a lady to be admired and I found her life story to be quite inspiring. This book tells you how she started out as an enthusiastic 18-year-old at Saatchi & Saatchi and how at the young age of 23, she went on to persuade David Sullivan to buy Birmingham City football club – turning that business around to sell it for an incredible £82 million 12 years later. How she was able to do that in her twenties I have no idea. This book not only charts her success in business but how she balances her personal and professional life and her priorities, particularly as a wife and mother of two. What I found most revealing was how Karren coped after doctors told her that she had a brain aneurysm and that she had to have an operation immediately (she was told she had a 30 per cent chance of not surviving!) If you are looking for inspiration I would highly recommend this book.
