It was Boxing Day and a lot of food and drink had been consumed!
Although to be honest, there’s not an awful lot of action until nearer the end of the film. As one less patient in our company was heard to comment: “It took them almost an hour to leave the house!”
Most of the first DVD is spent setting the scene as the young hobbit, Bilbo Baggins is persuaded by Gandalf the wizard to accompany 13 dwarves on an adventure to recapture their fallen homeland beneath the Misty Mountain from the dreadful dragon Smaug.
Tolkein’s brilliant Middle Earth and its host of characters are beautifully brought to life by Peter Jackson, with some stunning scenery thrown in. It’s a bit slow to start, but once it gets there you’re in for a treat.
So if you’ve a few hours to spare curl up and enjoy - but don’t get too comfy or you may fall asleep!
