I admit I didn’t have high hopes for this, as pastiche films can be very hit and miss but was pleasantly surprised.
There were generally funny moments, some clever observations on the nature of fame and the lengths people will go to achieve it, and endearing performances, particularly from Carell and Carrey, the latter capturing perfectly the ridiculousness of TV illusionists.
It also doesn’t outstay its welcome, leaving a fun 90 minutes that will give you a giggle. And the final trick is so brilliant, someone will really try it!.
