Last week my wife and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary - surviving this long is quite a feat, especially on my wife’s part!
To mark the occasion we decided to return to the hotel where we spent our honeymoon. The single hotel has grown into a blossoming resort. However what struck us most was the amazing hospitality and service from everyone working there, making us feel really special and valued.
While we were away a friend in Australia tweeted that he and his wife were going away to an inn almost three hours away from home because of the ‘outstanding hospitality’.
Leadership author John Maxwell calls this the ‘Golden Rule’ and interestingly versions exist in just about every culture. A Yoruba proverb from Nigeria says ‘One going to make a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try it on himself to feel how it hurts’.
The Bible makes it even plainer – whatever you want people to do to you, do it to them.
Try to live by the Golden Rule this week!
